I was born in Pennsylvania, but now live in what I call the Marpennsylginia region. It includes “wild, wonderful West Virginia.”
Yes, that’s one of the official slogans of the state.
The unofficial slogan, however, and one which the natives are quick to share, is “West by God Virginia.”
I shared that slogan with a lady at my Pennsylvania church one day and she gasped.
She reminded me that I should not take the Lord’s name in vain.
Huh?
It’s hard to know what the origin of the slogan is, but I’m rather sure it has nothing to do with demeaning or blaspheming God in any way.
Quite the opposite: West Virginia is such an incredibly beautiful state, that I think the slogan helps to glorify its creator.
In fact, when I hear it, I always think, “Made by God…and not made in China…sounds good to me!”
I’m so glad God made it so very wild and wonderful.
New state added to the union? =) Catchy name….
LOL…true! It is catchy!
